Study on E-waste Circularity and Management in ASEAN

The Economic Research Institute for ASEAN and East Asia (ERIA) is an international organisation established in 2007 through an agreement among 16 heads of government at the 3rd East Asia Summit in Singapore. ERIA conducts policy-oriented research to strengthen the ASEAN Economic Community, foster regional integration, and promote sustainable development across East Asia. Its work spans key areas including trade and investment, globalisation, SME development, human capital and infrastructure, and environmental and energy policy.

In line with these goals, the ASEAN–Japan partnership focuses on advancing circularity in electronics and supply chains to secure critical materials for a net-zero transition. This collaboration also promotes e-waste recycling, mineral recovery, and improved health and environmental outcomes.

Sunway IGSC contributes to these efforts by conducting research, facilitating policy dialogues, and engaging stakeholders to align Malaysia’s sustainability and innovation goals with regional and global agendas. Through its expertise in Science, Technology, Innovation, and Economy (STIE) frameworks, IGSC supports evidence-based policymaking and strategic collaboration that strengthen ASEAN’s collective capacity for sustainable and inclusive growth.
