Malaysia’s National Planetary Health Action Plan
The National Planetary Health Action Plan (NPHAP) is a nationwide initiative aimed at integrating planetary health principles into Malaysia’s policies and development plans through a Science, Technology, Innovation, and Economy (STIE)-driven approach. By addressing the interconnections between ecosystems, biodiversity, human health, and climate change, the project supports a sustainable future that balances prosperity with the well-being of people and the planet.
Between January and July 2024, the project conducted a series of key activities, including surveys, data analysis, stakeholder presentations, and a national dialogue. These efforts assessed the level of awareness and understanding of planetary health issues among firms, evaluated how businesses are embedding sustainable practices, and identified factors that influence corporate participation in advancing sustainability.
The findings and recommendations from this work will inform Malaysia’s National Planetary Health Action Plan, helping to embed planetary health across all sectors. Through a whole-of-nation approach and a Return-on-Values framework, the plan envisions a development model that aligns economic growth with environmental resilience and societal well-being.
