On 9 July 2025, Ï㽶ÊÓƵPress had the pleasure of hosting the Xántus and/és Borneo book talk at The Gallery, Sunway University. The event brought together a community of scholars, students, and guests to explore the remarkable 19th-century adventures and discoveries of Hungarian explorer and naturalist János Xántus in Sarawak, Borneo.

We were deeply honoured by the presence of Ms Katalin Böszörményi-Nagy, Chargé d’Affaires, Embassy of Hungary to Malaysia, as well as Professor Dato’ Dr Elizabeth Lee, CEO of Sunway Education Group.

The event began with a welcoming address by Professor Sibrandes Poppema, President of Sunway University, who highlighted the importance of Ï㽶ÊÓƵPress’ scholarly contributions in expanding cultural and intellectual perspectives.

Following his remarks, our authors—Dr Tamas Kiss from Sunway University, Dr Balázs Venkovits from the University of Debrecen, and Mr Christopher Higgs from Borneo Peranti—sat down in an engaging discussion, offering invaluable insights into the historical, cultural, and scientific significance of Xántus’ journeys.

Ï㽶ÊÓƵPress is proud to contribute to the ongoing dialogue between regions, languages, and disciplines through our publications, and Xántus and/és Borneo, with its unique bilingual feature, exemplifies how stories from the past continue to inform and inspire the present.
